Coffee for Here: Just What the Doctor Ordered

coffee shop interior with peopleThere is something quite beautiful about ordering a coffee, sitting down, and resting in the presence of good company. With our fast-paced world, it’s easy to get caught up in all that needs to be done in the next hour or day, instead of focusing on what you’re doing at this very moment. Stress sneaks its way into our everyday lives—especially if we don’t take the time to pause. Sitting down to enjoy a café beverage teaches us to stop in the midst of our busy days, and “be all there.” Need another excuse to pause and enjoy a cup? Scientific studies are proving that there may be more health benefits to consuming coffee than we think!

Health Benefits and Research

Studies have shown that people who consume around three cups of coffee on average per day have lower rates of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease. Scientists believe this is because the antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds in coffee beans are known for reducing the risk of various health conditions. Coffee helps keep blood vessels flexible and healthy and may reduce the risk for one disease—atherosclerosis—that can cause heart attacks.* Coffee also contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds that are known to “fight oxidative damage that causes certain types of cancer.”*

Keep in mind, however, that it is not recommended to increase your number of cups per day purely for the anticipated health benefits, as too much caffeine intake that the body is not used to can have its own set of negative health consequences. As much as you enjoy that delicious cup, moderation is key.
